Usb memory stick 512mb (Verbatim) only allowing 350mb data?

I have formatted the MS and scanned.. information tells me has no disk errors and all memory available. I am simply adding MP3 files on it to play on DVD player but when I get to approx 350 mb I can no longer add any files. Yet it still tells me I have 150mb free…whats going on???

1. Which OS are you using?
2. When formatting the MS, is it a straight format or a format with system?
3. Are you formatting through the OS or through a program that came with the MS?

It depends, if your MS also doubles as a media player, there could be software loaded onto the MS to allow you to play those types of files without having to have the MS constantly plugged into your PC. Depending on the type of application, it could take anywhere from 25 to 150 megs for a media player application.

With the Creative MuVo, there is a “firmware” application installed on the device in order to play mp3 files as well act as a portable storage device. I don’t remember how much space it takes though.
